Thanks for responding to my call for band members. Here’s a little about the band that I am forming.
Genre: Yacht Rock (Basically music from about 1972-1986 that one might listen to while on a boat high on cocaine.) Also known as Soft Rock of the late 70s.
Personnel: This will be a fairly large band with at least two vocalists, guitar, bass, keys, drums, at least one brass/sax player. Additional players may be added based on client requests.
Target Audience: Corporate bookings and weddings. Occasional club gigs. This is NOT a garage band.
Rehearsals: Players are assumed to be professional level requiring only a few rehearsals per year. Most of the time you will be shedding these tunes on your own.
Bookings: I will be co-managing this band along with a partner that I have worked with for several years who keeps multiple bands well-paid and busy year-round in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, Austin, and Nashville. We are spinning up this band to cover midwest events as well as some out of state/travel gigs. There are possibilities for international travel.
Tracks: There will be some tunes that require tracks. I personally prefer to play with as few as possible, but this genre does have some key tunes where they are unavoidable.
Gear: Players are expected to have pro-level instrumentation. Most events will have a contracted sound/lighting company to handle PA. Some events will provide a backline, but these are far less common. Our standard load out will include in-ear monitors. Players will be required to provide their own in-ear monitor transmitter and receiver.
Costumes: Part of the draw of this band is appearance and encouraging audience participation in dressing the part. Costumes may include hats, sunglasses, wigs, false (or real) mustaches. Typically costuming will be nautical themed. (Think anywhere from sailor outfits, Thurston Howell from Gilligan’s Island, to French Riviera classy.)
Auditions: I’m currently in the process of getting auditions scheduled. All players will be expected to audition with the following four songs:
- Rosanna – Toto
- Come Sail Away – Styx
- The Tide is High – Blondie
- Maneater – Hall and Oats
